The Anatomy of a Computer Intrusion – How the Dalai Lama’s computers were compromised, and how you can prevent it from happening to you.

Have you ever wondered how hackers break into computer systems, and what happens when a computer is compromised? Many people believe a hacked computer will be a mere inconvenience because their computer will be shutdown, or the operating system will stop working temporarily. In reality, professional hackers’ intent is to go undetected on users’ computers for monetary gain, extortion, espionage, or other reasons.

Earlier this year an intrusion was detected on the computer network of the Dalai Lama, and other computers around the world. The intrusion was discovered and detailed by a Canadian computer research organization.

In this webinar we will walk through the techniques used by the hackers to gain access to the computers of the Dalai Lama and computers in government offices, embassies, and companies around the world. You will learn how spyware was used to offload sensitive documents from these computers, and how the hackers were able to monitor the computer’s users in real-time for nearly two years. You will also learn how this intrusion, and similar threats to your computers can be prevented.

ATTENTION HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS – Learn about the new regulations outlined in the HITECH Act.

Nestled within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) was the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act). The HITECH Act provides 22 billion dollars in funding to advance the use of electronic medical records by health care providers. With this funding comes requirements to protect these records, and this Act creates the first federally mandated data breach notification requirements for electronic protected health information. Further, the HITECH Act now requires HIPAA Privacy and Security compliance by business associates such as billing companies, accounting firms, and others that provide services to HIPAA covered entities.

Our presenter, John Albertini, is an experienced information security professional who maintains a Certified HIPAA Security Specialist, and other IT Security industry designations. He has implemented and audited HIPAA Security programs for national healthcare organizations including the clinics at the Kennedy Space Center and New York Stock Exchange.

Join us to learn more about the HITECH Act requirements, some suggested solutions, and items to watch as the computer information security requirements for this Act develop.

Protecting Your Children from Inappropriate Web Content

The Internet offers children outstanding opportunities for educational growth and fun, but it also raises legitimate concerns about the risks of this seemingly boundless medium. Along with information about spaceships and dinosaurs and downloads of pop music can come hate-speech, violent imagery, cult messages—and pornography. How can parents deal with this dark side of modern technology and still allow children to explore the cyber

world? - NetSafekids

• 1 in 4 youth have unwanted exposure to inappropriate pictures each year - Internet Keep Safe Coalition

• Nine of 10 kids aged 8-16 have viewed pornography on the Internet, often in the process of doing homework - London School of Economics

In this session we will walk through several techniques parents can use to restrict and monitor their children’s web activity, as well as explore the resources available for parents to learn more about protecting their children in a connected world.
